Man with TB took Phila.-San Francisco flight
Federal authorities say a man with tuberculosis was allowed to board a plane from Philadelphia to San Francisco over the weekend despite having been placed on a "do not board" list.
An official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the man who took a US Airways flight on Saturday had been placed on the list the day before. She said he was transferred from the airport upon arrival for treatment.
Dr. Martin Cetron, the agency's director of global migration and quarantine, said the risk of infection for passengers from a flight less than eight hours is "exceedingly small."
A Transportation Security Administration official said the agency quickly relayed the "do not board" information to the airlines. US Airways spokeswoman Michelle Mohr said officials were working with the CDC and TSA to determine how the man was able to get onto the flight.
